4 Reasons You Should Try Out a Health and Fitness Challenge | This Miss Cooks

When I completed Tone It Up 21 Day Challenge earlier this year, it got me thinking about fitness challenges in general.

Why do people sign up for them?

Do they even work?

Which fitness challenges are the best?

Healthy Fall Recipes to Make on Busy Weeknights

Healthy Fall Recipes to Make on Busy Weeknights | This Miss Cooks

The leaves are turning, the smell of Pumpkin Spice Lattes is in the air, and I have heard the words Hocus Pocus mentioned at least once a day for the past two weeks. Friends, I do believe it’s Fall and I could not be any happier. Well, I suppose that’s a lie but I don’t think the human stomach was made to hold 15 boxes of Girl Scout cookies so I will settle for this.

I talked about how I’m crafting my Fall To-Do List recently, and I’m putting the finishing touches on it now. Think apple picking, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and some frightfully fun costumes come Halloween. Oh, and the most Autumnal-themed trip to Trader Joe’s you ever did see. More on that little interlude between me and the hallowed aisles Friday. Continue reading “Healthy Fall Recipes to Make on Busy Weeknights”

Honest Imperfect Produce Delivery Review

Honest Imperfect Produce Review | This Miss Cooks

If you’ve been on the internet or in grocery stores at all in the past few years, you’ve likely seen the many options out there for food delivery companies. Everything from restaurant meals with UberEats to cooking kits like Hello Fresh to groceries from Instacart. One of my favorites has been community supported agriculture, or CSAs for short.

4 Tips for Eating Healthy When Flying

4 Tips for Eating Healthy When Flying | This Miss CooksPhoto by Cole Keister on Unsplash

I’m writing this post on the road through Idaho with my future mother-in-law and 2 dogs on our way back to Portland. If you’re planning your own road trip, I have a few tips for keeping yourself healthy and sane from last week. My lab will be getting extra busy with experiments in the next couple of months, so I’m getting in most of my vacations in now. Which is why I will be jetting off on Friday (so soon!) to visit my sister in California and will need to brush up on how to avoid gaining 10 pounds in 3 days. If you’ve been on the healthy lifestyle train for any length of time, you’re likely familiar with the tiny little wrench that travel throws into your best-laid plans. Perhaps the most notorious among them is the quintessential and all-American road trip. And hey, there are some foods and events that are the very reason for the word balance, but it can be so easy to get totally derailed and spend an entire vacation on an endless sugar crash. How to Eat Healthy with As Little Effort (and Money) As Possible

How to Eat Healthy with As Little Effort (and Money) As Possible | This Miss Cooks

It’s very nearly the end of summer and most people seem determined to make the most of it while they can up here in the Pacific Northwest. For some that means weekend trips to the coast, for others it’s spending time in the National Parks, and a few even head out of their home state entirely for a full vacation. Whether it’s family reunions, weddings, or just a get-up-and-go jaunt, you might find yourself in a bit of a bind when you get home and realize that the work week is about to start without any of your normal preparations.

I’ve written before on how to prepare for a healthy trip and how important it is to have a plan of attack for when you get home. Picking back up a regular fitness routine is important, but even harder to make time for is menu planning, grocery shopping, and meal prepping for your first days back to the daily grind. The Best Way to Use Up Those End-of-Summer Tomatoes | This Miss Cooks

You know what’s glorious? Coming home from a vacation and NOT going grocery shopping, NOT meal prepping, and NOT starving because of the former two. Creatively re-purposing and remaking leftovers into new (and healthy) dinners might just become a regular adventure post-holidays. Feeling Fine Friday: 3 Health Myths, 1 Truth & A Bonus Recommend

IMG_5303

You know, this little segment technically started as a way for me to pull together my favorite things from the week all in one place, but not-so-secretly I’m a major grouch with bad science. Look, it’s not my fault, I’ve just been in this biz for 5 years and don’t take too kindly to people abusing and misusing it.

Dinner Ideas For Leftover Tomatoes

I have 15 tomatoes.

Which is about 13 more than I have on hand at any given time, and particularly ironic given just how much Mr Never Cooks dislikes this fruit-vegetable thing. Yes that’s right, I refuse to even pick a side in the phylogenetic tree debate. Continue reading “Dinner Ideas For Leftover Tomatoes”
