How is it already Friday again?!
I’m certainly not mad about it, but this week has flown by at warp speed. And to be honest, some of it was seriously the pits. As with everything though, there are always little things to find joy in, and that’s what I’m trying to do here today and every day.
Proud Moment. On Monday I ran 10 miles for my marathon training and I was reminded of just how far I’ve come. It helped that the Portland Marathon confirmed today that the somewhat beleaguered event had settled into its new course after a couple of months of drama and uncertainty. My calendar event was listed as “10 miles. One way or another.” and I’m not sure I would have started without those words of determination from past-self.

Runners’ Rewards. Normally I try to avoid the game where I attempt to replace the calories I burned off through exercise in the most expedient and nutritionally empty manner possible (also known as face planting into a box of donuts) but I wanted to take advantage of my unexpected day off. So instead I face planted into some bao and curry at a Vietnamese-French fusion place. It was 1000% worth it.
Work Views. I feel so lucky to live and work in such a beautiful city. Every morning, this is my view from my commute to the lab and it’s breathtaking every damn time.
Spirit Animals. Has anyone ever asked you what your ‘spirit animal’ is? I grew up in Arizona learning a ton about Native American culture as a kid, so I know I really need to find a less culturally appropriative term for this one. Everyone who’s ever asked me what mine was has always vehemently agreed with my choice of the humble yet energetic squirrel, though. This guy and I were BFFs yesterday.
Canned Wine. Look, I never thought I’d be touting the amazing invention of wine in anything other than a bottle or a glass but here we are. Trader Joe’s has started stocking these adorable little cans of sparkling rosé and I let my #basicbitch flag fly. They also have a sparkling white version that I AM HERE FOR.
I hope you’re having an excellent Friday! Make sure you check out my previous Feeling Fine Friday if you want a little more happy in your day.
