Summer 2017 Bucket List: The Minimalist Remix

It’s the longest day of the year, friends! It’s also the perfect time to stay up well past your bedtime (mostly because the sun hasn’t even set yet if you go to sleep at 9 like my granny self) and dream up your ‘Summer Bucket List.’ This year I’m really trying to prioritize experiences over things in all areas of my life. I’ve been on a Minimalist kick, and I’m really enjoying the memories I’m creating. Continue reading “Summer 2017 Bucket List: The Minimalist Remix”

Backpacking in the Pacific Northwest: Prep and Gear Packing List

Backpacking in the Pacific Northwest: Prep and Gear Packing List

I’ve been lucky enough to call the Pacific Northwest my home for almost a decade now, and the beauty of this place still takes my breath away every time I venture out to the woods to enjoy nature.

One item that had been sitting on my bucket list for years was to tackle a tough backpacking trip, one that was both challenging and rewarding. One of my closest friends, Julianne (who took half of these photos), is heading off to graduate school and had the same pre-move goal. And thus our plan was born! Travel Guide: Crater Lake National Park

Travel Guide: Crater Lake National Park | This Miss Cooks

My friends and I have had Crater Lake National Park on our Oregon-centric bucket list for years. With a few of them headed off for graduate school at the end of the summer, there was no time like the present to check that one off. Here’s the thing though: on a good day Crater Lake is about 4.5 hours away from Portland and while I can rock out to Oops I did It Again and A Thousand Miles in the car for a few hours at a time, even I have my limits.

Moving and Minimalism

Moving and Minimalism | This Miss Cooks

After 8 years of dating and 4 different living situations, Mr Never Cooks & I are FINALLY moving into our own place together. In some ways it feels like a step back since we’re going from renting a house to renting a 1-bedroom apartment, but it’s going to be so worth it to finally live without roommates. Plus the location is perfect for both of us! Continue reading “Moving and Minimalism”

Updating My Wardrobe for Fall for Just $40

Updating My Wardrobe for Fall for Just $40 | This Miss Cooks

Every year before school started when I was a kid my Mom would take me to her favorite department store and I’d try on any number of new dresses and pants and shirts and matching headbands. The woman had a thing for outfit themes and I’m not blaming her, I looked darn cute as a mini sailor.

Travel Guide: Oceanside & the Oregon Coast

Travel Guide: Oceanside & the Oregon Coast | This Miss Cooks

I love how all my traveling outside of Portland tends to fall right in the middle of the only beautiful weather this city gets. The things we do for love.

This year’s Labor Day weekend was at least spent a 90 minute drive from our front door, in a lovely little town called Oceanside, OR. The trip out to the coast was a little rainy and beautiful, filled with shifting, billowy clouds and sweet farms. If you’re the passenger, that is. If you’re driving the view was mostly the back end of a slow moving RV. A word to the wise: Route 6  is prone to some awful car accidents, so be careful to drive safely.

5 Things to Do in Minneapolis

5 Things to Do In Minneapolis | This Miss Cooks

Last week I was able to fly back to Minnesota to spend time with my extended family at our semi-annual reunion. I’ve been visiting the Twin Cities on and off since I was a kid to see my Dad’s relatives and I’ve picked up enough tricks to make sure that everything goes smoothly.

My last post outlined how to set yourself up for traveling success, and hopefully this one will be useful to anyone who wants to stop by the land of 10,000 lakes and the place where Garrison Keillor honed his biting passive aggression. 😉 Continue reading “5 Things to Do in Minneapolis”
