I’ve been lucky enough to call the Pacific Northwest my home for almost a decade now, and the beauty of this place still takes my breath away every time I venture out to the woods to enjoy nature.

One item that had been sitting on my bucket list for years was to tackle a tough backpacking trip, one that was both challenging and rewarding. One of my closest friends, Julianne (who took half of these photos), is heading off to graduate school and had the same pre-move goal. And thus our plan was born! My friends and I have had Crater Lake National Park on our Oregon-centric bucket list for years. With a few of them headed off for graduate school at the end of the summer, there was no time like the present to check that one off. Here’s the thing though: on a good day Crater Lake is about 4.5 hours away from Portland and while I can rock out to Oops I did It Again and A Thousand Miles in the car for a few hours at a time, even I have my limits.

I love how all my traveling outside of Portland tends to fall right in the middle of the only beautiful weather this city gets. The things we do for love.

This year’s Labor Day weekend was at least spent a 90 minute drive from our front door, in a lovely little town called Oceanside, OR. The trip out to the coast was a little rainy and beautiful, filled with shifting, billowy clouds and sweet farms. If you’re the passenger, that is. If you’re driving the view was mostly the back end of a slow moving RV. A word to the wise: Route 6  is prone to some awful car accidents, so be careful to drive safely.
